The Wolves Cancel Preseason Tour to South Korea

JABAR EKSPRES – Wolverhampton Wanderers (The Wolves) club, who compete in the English Premier League, decided to cancel their pre-season tour to South Korea as the tour promoter did not fulfill their financial and logistical obligations to the club.

The Wolves were supposed to have their pre-season tour in South Korea on July 21, with matches against Scottish League champions Celtic and Italian club AS Roma.

Russell Jones, Wolverhampton Wanderers’ General Manager for Marketing and Commercial Growth, said, “We have been in communication with the tour promoters over the last two months as they seek new investment following the failure of the original tour investors.”

The tour is scheduled to take place in two cities, Incheon and Suwon. South Korea is the target Asian market for Wolves as the club has many fans in the country, especially due to South Korean national team player Hwang Hee Chan playing for Wolves.

Although this decision is a big blow from a commercial perspective, Jones admits that preparing for the Premier League and other important competitions is the top priority for the club.

Currently, the Wolves are preparing for a tour or trial matches in Europe. Although some promoters offered alternatives, the club was reluctant to accept them due to timing and operational arrangements that could disrupt the team’s preparations for the 2023/2024 season.

Jones confirmed, “The players will be back for pre-season soon. We can’t prolong this situation any longer. The club’s focus at the moment is to ensure the team’s preparation for the new season goes as well as possible.”
