PLN Collaborates with BKSDA to Build Power Lines in Conservation Forest

JABAR EKSPRES – PLN North Sumatra Distribution Unit (UID) signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) with the North Sumatra Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) in order to utilize and build electricity networks in conservation forest areas.

“The purpose of signing this PKS is to ensure the realization of the integrity, sustainability and benefits of conservation areas and minimize direct and indirect impacts,” said General Manager, Awaluddin Hafid, in a statement in Medan, Monday (6/5).

The signing was carried out by the General Manager of PLN UID North Sumatra Awaluddin Hafid and the Head of the North Sumatra KSDA Center, Rudianto Saragih Napitu.

Awaluddin said in addition to that as a result of the construction, operation and maintenance of the Medium Voltage Air Line (HUTM) and Low Voltage Air Line (HUTR).

“Bringing electricity to remote areas in North Sumatra, PLN cannot run alone. Therefore, the synergy between PLN and BKSDA is necessary,” he said.

Head of North Sumatra BKSDA, Rudianto Saragih Napitu, appreciated and welcomed PLN’s efforts in electrifying remote areas.

This strategic step is done to keep the conservation area maintained.

“Conservation areas are indeed one of the challenges faced by PLN. But we will support PLN to electrify all areas in North Sumatra,” said Rudianto.

Currently the electrification ratio of PLN UID North Sumatra has reached 99.85 percent, through this collaboration, PLN is optimistic that it can achieve a 100 percent electrification ratio in 2024.

This cooperation agreement covers the construction, operation and maintenance of HUTM electricity networks, distribution substations and HUTR in the work area of the North Sumatra KSDA Center. Support for area protection and security, community empowerment, planning, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of cooperation.

The scope of operation and maintenance of electricity networks along ± 36,104 circuit kilometers (kms) or an area of ± 21,662 hectares (ha) is in nine areas including Sijaba Hutaginjang Nature Park, Lau Debuk – debuk Nature Park, Ancient Martelu Nature Reserve, Dolok Tinggi Raja Nature Park, and Dolok Sibual-buali Nature Reserve.
