JABAR EKSPRES – A number of wood charcoal traders in Lebak Regency, Banten, have been overwhelmed by market demand for the past two weeks, possibly in preparation for Eid al-Adha 2023.
“Usually, the demand for wood charcoal is for grilling sacrificial meat satay,” said Harsono (55), a wood charcoal trader, on Jalan Lingkar Selatan in Rangkasbitung, Lebak Regency, Monday (6/5).
The demand for wood charcoal is certainly from retailers for Eid al-Adha stock, so that they can make a profit.

Because, during Eid al-Adha, many people buy wood charcoal for the purpose of grilling the meat of cattle, buffaloes, sheep, and goats.
Therefore, the demand for wood charcoal since the last two weeks has sold out 100 sacks at a price of IDR 40,000 per sack, resulting in an income of IDR 4 million.

“We normally sell 30 sacks in two weeks,” Harsono said.
He is now placing orders with wood charcoal craftsmen, so that he can supply 5,000 sacks for Eid al-Adha, which falls on June 29, 2023.
The preparation of 5,000 sacks of wood charcoal is based on last year’s experience of being sold out, and most of the buyers are retailers and residents.
“We have been selling wood charcoal for 25 years and it has helped our family’s economy enough to buy a house and send three children to school,” he explained.
Likewise, Sarmudi (45), a wood charcoal trader, said that he had sold up to 100 sacks in the last two weeks, and the price was IDR 40,000 / sack with a capacity of 14 kilograms and generated a turnover of IDR 4 million.

With the Rp4 million income, he said, he could earn a net profit of Rp1.3 million.
“We have now placed another order to the wood charcoal crafters to be supplied with 6,000 sacks,” Sarmudi said.
Hari (55), a wood charcoal collector in Sajira Subdistrict, Lebak Regency, admitted that he supplies wood charcoal every week to regular customers outside the region, such as Depok, Tangerang, and Bogor.
