Indonesian Embassy in Moscow Urges Citizens to Limit Travel Amid Wagner Uprising

JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian Embassy in Moscow on Saturday (6/24) urged Indonesian citizens in Russia to limit travel outside the city amid the security situation due to the rebellion of the Wagner mercenary group.

The Russian government decided to impose a counter-terrorism policy after the Wagner group was deemed treasonous and incited armed rebellion.

In a statement released via social media on Sunday morning, the Indonesian Embassy urged Indonesian citizens to remain calm and not travel to several regions, such as Rostov and Voronezh, until the situation becomes conducive.

“For Indonesian citizens in the Rostov and Voronezh regions to comply with local government directives not to leave the house / dormitory / residence if there is no urgent situation,” according to the statement.

The Indonesian Embassy also asked Indonesian citizens to always carry identity documents or passports when traveling and doing daily activities because there is increased security in public places, such as public transportation, train stations, and airports.

Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Wagner leader Yevgeny Prigozhin of treason, after Wagner paramilitary forces crossed the Ukraine-Russia border and entered the city of Rostov-on-Don, Anadolu reported.

Prigozhin, on the other hand, accused Russian forces of attacking the mercenary group.

Prigozhin, in recent months, has repeatedly accused the Russian Defense Ministry and Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu of not supplying the paramilitary group with enough weapons.

Wagner has been fighting alongside Russian forces in Ukraine.
