The high pollution of hormone-disrupting chemicals triggers fish reproductive disorders, thereby reducing fish populations and the extinction of fish that are intolerant of increasing pollutant levels.
Musi River water also contains heavy metals manganese and copper with levels reaching 0.2 ppm and 0.06 ppm, whereas the standard should not exceed 0.03 ppm.
“Chlorine and phosphate levels are also quite high, namely for chlorine 0.16 mg/liter, which should not be more than 0.03 mg/liter, while phosphate reaches 0.59 mg/l. The high levels of chlorine and phosphate greatly affect the respiratory system of fish and affect the formation of fish eggs,” said the environmental activist.
