JABAR EKSPRES – Indonesian female tennis player Aldila Sutjiadi failed to reach the French Open 2023 mixed doubles final after running aground in the semifinals with her Dutch partner Matwe Middelkoop on Wednesday (6/7).
Competing at Simonne-Mathieu Field, Roland Garros, Paris, Aldila / Middelkoop’s steps had to stop in the hands of their partner from the women’s doubles sector Japanese tennis player Miyu Kato who paired with German tennis player Tim Putz.
Based on the match results, Aldila / Middelkoop put up a fierce fight in the first set. However, the Indonesian / Dutch double must recognize the greatness of their opponents with a final score of 5-7, 0-6.

Although unable to continue the journey to the final round, Aldila still carved an extraordinary record by reaching the Grand Slam semifinals for the first time. Moreover, this is the first time Aldila has played mixed doubles at a major tournament.
The 28-year-old started her run at last year’s Grand Slam by playing in the women’s doubles sector. Together with her partner, Aldila/Kato “moved up” to be seeded at Roland Garros this year.
Their first Grand Slam seeding came at the Australian Open in January when they were seeded 16th, the same as at this year’s French Open.
Their second step at the season-opening Grand Slam was stopped at the hands of second-seeded American doubles Coco Gauff/Jessica Pegula in the third round or last 16.
Aldila/Kato then managed to avenge the defeat by making a surprise in the second round of the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, USA, beating the host mainstay Gauff/Pegula, before stopping in the semifinals.
However, Aldila/Kato’s journey at the French Open this time had to be colored by drama when they took a 3-1 lead in the second set of the third round over their opponents Marie Bouzkova and Sara Sorribes Tormo.
