Tourist Boat Sinks in Komodo National Park

Jabar Ekspres – A tour boat carrying a number of tourists reportedly suffered a disaster in the Pink Beach area, Komodo Island National Park, West Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

“Yes, it is true that a phinisi-type tour boat sank in the waters of Pink Beach,” said Head of the West Manggarai Police Polairud Unit AKP I Wayan Merta when confirmed from Kupang, Saturday.

He said this was in response to a viral video on social media showing the evacuation process of a phinisi-type tourist boat that had sunk in the Pink Beach area.

Wayan said that he could not confirm how many tourists were victims in the tourist boat accident named KM Teman Baik.

“The temporary data is that there are nine tourists who became victims in the sinking ship accident and they are Malaysian citizens who were traveling,” he said.

But he stressed to confirm the exact number of victims and how the chronology awaits the arrival of the ship’s captain and the victims who are being evacuated to the Labuan Bajo dock.

His party is also still checking the sailing license and complete manifest of the sinking ship.

“Currently the victims and the ship captain and crew are being evacuated to the dock, we will update again later,” he said.

He added that both Basarnas and the West Manggarai Police were not involved in the evacuation process of the victims.
