BMKG: Waves on Bali’s Ferry Routes Reach Four Meters

Jabar Ekspres – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Region III Denpasar has asked the public to be aware of the potential for high sea waves on crossing routes in Bali which are estimated to reach four meters, July 22-25, 2023.

“Increased wind speed affects the height of sea waves in Bali,” said Head of BMKG Region III Denpasar Cahyo Nugroho in Denpasar, Saturday.

The crossing routes are the southern Bali Strait, Badung Strait and southern Lombok Strait.

The average wind speed in the region is estimated to reach 20 knots or 37 kilometers per hour, while in the Bali Sea bordering Buleleng Regency in north Bali it is estimated to have wave heights of up to 2.5 meters with wind speeds estimated at 25 knots or about 46 kilometers per hour.

The wind movement comes from the east-southeast direction or comes from the Australian Continent which moves constantly towards the Asian mainland or the east wind.

In the southern waters of Bali, it is estimated to have a sea wave height of up to six meters with a very high category with wind speeds estimated to be up to 20 knots.

The waters of the Bali Sea are the route of fishermen going to sea and the main shipping route from Surabaya to eastern Indonesia, while the Bali Strait is the Bali-Java crossing route and the Lombok Strait is the Bali-Lombok crossing route and the shipping route from Bali to a number of cities in Indonesia.
