JABAR EKSPRES – Manchester City have reportedly reached a personal agreement with Croatian defender Josko Gvardiol, but RB Leipzig do not want to let the player go cheaply.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, RB Leipzig wants to make Gvardiol the most expensive defender in football history.
“Pep Guardiola really likes Josko’s quality. Talks are ongoing between the two clubs,” Romano wrote on his Twitter account, Sunday (6/25).
Romano said that RB Leipzig wants to keep Gvardiol this summer and will not release him under the transfer value 100 million euros (around Rp1.6 trillion).
Gvardiol himself has indeed been linked with top European clubs in recent months, thanks to his performance at the 2022 World Cup late last year.
He became an important player when the Croatian national team won third place in the four-year competition.
Before Manchester City, Real Madrid were also rumored to be interested in the 21-year-old. However, rumors of Real Madrid’s interest began to diminish and now Manchester City is the strongest candidate to get his signature.
This season, Gvardiol made a total of 41 appearances in all competitions for Leipzig by scoring three goals. He managed to help Die Roten Bullen finish third in the final standings of the 2022-2023 German League.
