JABAR EKSPRES – The Department of Agriculture and Horticulture (DPH) of Jayapura Regency, Papua, is preparing water reservoirs to anticipate the dry season.
Head of DPH Jayapura David Zakaria in Sentani, Saturday, said in anticipation of the dry season it makes water reservoirs in order to irrigate agriculture.
“We always take anticipatory steps so that the agricultural sector still gets good irrigation even during the dry season,” he said.
According to David, looking at previous experiences, there have been crop failures, so in this dry season his party is taking these anticipatory steps.
“We learn from experience that during the dry season the rice fields become dry and our rice fails to harvest, for that we are trying so that the same thing does not happen again,” he said.

He explained that it was not only for rice crops in rice fields, but his party also appealed to farmers to prepare anticipatory steps for secondary crops, vegetables and fruits.
“There is paddy rice and field rice, field rice is still able to survive even without irrigation,” he said again.
He added that Jayapura Regency has a water source from the Cycloop mountain range with many springs, so farmers in the area have no difficulty getting water.
“Only certain areas have water shortages and only rely on rain. This is our point of attention to prepare water reservoirs,” he said again.
