Edouard Mendy Officially Joins Saudi Arabian Club Al-Ahli

JABAR EKSPRES – Senegalese goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has officially left Chelsea to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli, the two clubs said.

“The Lion of Teranga protects our goal,” Al-Ahli said in a post on their Twitter account quoted by AFP on Thursday (6/29).

Al-Ahli said that Mendy’s contract would run until 2026, without providing financial details.

However, British media reported that the Saudi Arabian club had to spend around 16 million pounds for the goalkeeper.

Mendy joined Chelsea from French club Stade Rennais in 2020. The 31-year-old goalkeeper then became one of the key players for the London club to win their second Champions League title with a 1-0 win over Manchester City in 2021.

Following the departure of Chelsea’s German coach Thomas Tuchel, Mendy began to lose his place between the sticks with coaches Graham Potter and Frank Lampard preferring to play Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Mendy becomes the third Chelsea player to move to Saudi Arabia after Kante and compatriot Kalidou Koulibaly who joined Al-Hilal.
