Indonesian Embassy in Astana Holds Cooking Demonstration at Indonesian Cultural Center in Kazakhstan

JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian Embassy in Astana on Saturday held a cooking demonstration of Indonesian specialties for the local community at the Indonesian Cultural Center hall in the Kazakh capital, in collaboration with the Dharma Wanita Persatuan (DWP).

Indonesian Ambassador to Kazakhstan Fadjroel Rachman, when opening the event, explained the importance of gastrodiplomacy in relations between countries.

“Culinary can be a door to friendship between the two countries and gastrodiplomacy is a form of diplomacy through food (culinary),” Fadjroel said in a statement received on Sunday (6/25).

He also thanked DWP Chair Poppy Rachman and DWP administrators for organizing the cooking demonstration hosted by Chef Budiarti.

Chef Budiarti demonstrated how to make rib fried rice and pumpkin talam at the event.

She also said she was happy to be able to share her knowledge of Indonesian cooking with the people of Kazakhstan.

“Alhamdulillah, all the participants were very excited to learn Indonesian cuisine. It’s great to be able to exchange knowledge about Indonesian cuisine,” said Budiarti, head cook at Wisma Indonesia in Astana.

“Hopefully events like this can elevate Indonesian cuisine to increasingly go international,” she said.

The participants packed the hall of the Indonesian Cultural Center and appreciated the taste of the food served, the Indonesian Embassy said.

“This program is very interesting. Finally I can know about Indonesian culture through its food. The food is also very delicious. I will try this cuisine in my home,” said a participant, Orlova Oxana.
