Japanese Official Admits there was a Bitter Period in Indonesia and Japan History

JABAR EKSPRES – Press Secretary to the Emperor of Japan Kojiro Shiojiri admitted that there was indeed a bitter period in the history between Indonesia and Japan.

“In our opinion, there have indeed been difficult times. However, we must overcome the difficult period to open a better relationship between the two countries, namely Indonesia and Japan,” said Press Secretary Kojiro Shiojiri in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/20).

Shiojiri said this when giving a press briefing regarding the visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako in Indonesia.

According to Shiojiri, Japan is harmoniously cooperating with Indonesia in various fields, one of which is in the field of disaster management by establishing the SABO Technical Center in Yogyakarta.

“And this year, it is a special year because we are celebrating 65 years of diplomatic relations between Japan and Indonesia. For 65 years, Japan and Indonesia have progressed together and established various cooperation as I mentioned earlier,” said Shiojiri.

Shiojiri also added that from the development of relations between Indonesia and Japan, this year realized the visit of Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako to Indonesia.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako visited Indonesia at the invitation of Indonesian President Joko Widodo who visited Japan in July last year and they were eager to see firsthand the development of relations between Indonesia and Japan.

Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Indonesia, on Saturday (June 17), and plan to return to Japan on June 23.

During their visit to Indonesia, Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako met with President Jokowi at Bogor Palace and visited several places such as Kalibata Heroes Cemetery, National Museum, and Darma Persada University.

“During our stay in Indonesia, we want to deepen the diversity of society and culture as well as the history of Indonesia, and we want to remember and feel the people who contributed to enhancing the friendship between the two countries,” Shiojiri said, quoting Emperor Naruhito’s remarks during his visit to Bogor Palace.
