Hilmar Farid: Cultural Heritage Data Paves The Way for Cooperation with ASEAN

JABAR EKSPRES – Hilmar Farid, Director General of Culture at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research and Technology, said that cooperation with ASEAN countries has been carried out by matching cultural heritage data.

“Within the framework of ASEAN itself, there is data on heritage, so the data on cultural heritage that we have from all ASEAN is put together, then the similarities and differences are seen,” said Hilmar in Jakarta, Tuesday (6/20).

Hilmar said that the cooperation with ASEAN that has been built so far has been more about exchanging or borrowing works, capacity building and in terms of technology.

“So far, the cooperation with Singapore is more about bilateral relations, but there is often borrowing works, so they borrow works from us at the National Gallery, while in terms of capacity building it has been well established with the Philippines,” he said.

Previously, Hilmar received a visit from Japanese Emperor Hironomiya Naruhito and Empress Masako to the National Museum, Jakarta. The Emperor and his wife apparently showed Japan’s interest in Indonesian culture.

“The Emperor’s visit is very special for us and shows that the Emperor’s visit is not only about economic and geopolitical cooperation in the region, but also about culture,” said Hilmar.

According to him, so far the cooperation with Japan has been more in terms of technology to collect data on cultural heritage.

“So the project is more or less collecting all data on cultural heritage,” he said.

The Japanese Emperor apparently has an interest in the civilization of irrigation systems in Indonesia, one of whose stories is illustrated by the Tugu Inscription, the Harinjing Inscription and the Palepangan Inscription at the National Museum.
