JABAR EKSPRES – PT PLN (Persero) through its Social and Environmental Responsibility (CSR) program carried out a beach cleanup program at Tanjung Bayang Beach, Makassar City to commemorate World Environment Day (HLH) 2023.
Carrying the theme “Solutions for Plastic Pollution,” the activity which is also an implementation of the Employee Volunteering Program (EVP) was attended by more than 1,000 volunteers and various environmental activist communities in Makassar City, Saturday.
Head of the South Sulawesi Environment and Forestry Service Andi Hasbi appreciated the program from PLN. He explained that plastic waste is often found scattered on the coast of this sea.
“With this program, we hope that it can continue so that the beauty of the coast can return as before,” Andi said.
Indonesian Marine Conservation Foundation Executive Director Nirwan Dessibali said he was surprised by the enthusiasm of the more than 1,000 volunteers from 54 communities who attended.
“This enthusiasm indicates the public’s concern for the environment. Hopefully, this positive activity can become a culture so that people will care about waste in South Sulawesi,” he said.
General Manager of PT PLN (Persero) Sulawesi Development Main Unit Defiar Anis explained that PLN UID Sulselrabar, PLN Sulawesi Development Main Unit (UIP) and PLN Sulawesi Distribution Main Unit and Load Regulatory Center (UIP3B) synergized with the South Sulawesi Provincial Environment Office to echo the beach clean-up program.
This PLN-initiated activity also took place simultaneously at 44 points throughout Indonesia and was attended by PLN employee volunteers.
“We aim that all PLN employees are able to make a positive contribution in improving the quality of life of the community with a cleaner and greener environment, especially in Makassar City,” Anis said.
General Manager of PLN UID Sulselrabar Moch Andy Adchaminoerdin added that the efforts made by PLN are the company’s commitment to the principles of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in creating environmental sustainability.
