JABAR EKSPRES – The Padang Fish Quarantine and Quality Control and Fishery Product Safety Station (SKIPM), West Sumatra, noted that West Sumatra exported frozen tuna to the United States worth Rp2.5 billion throughout May 2023.
Head of SKIPM Padang, Abdur Rohman in Padang on Thursday, said a total of 19.7 tons of frozen tuna were exported throughout May 2023.
The total fishery products from West Sumatra exported in May 2023 weighed 19,821.73 kilograms or 19.8 tons with a total value of Rp2.52 billion.
“We issued three fish health letters as documents that complement these fishery products before being exported to the destination country,” he said.
Besides tuna, West Sumatra also exported 48 kilograms of fresh crispy fish with a value of Rp4,800,000 and one kilogram of dried fish.
Meanwhile, in April 2023, the total export value of fishery products from West Sumatra reached Rp1.8 billion, consisting of 30 thousand groupers exported to Hong Kong with an economic value of Rp1.8 billion, while fresh gariang fish weighing 139 kilograms with a value of Rp13,900,000 was sent to Malaysia.
“We continue to encourage the potential of these fishery products to be exported directly from West Sumatra to destination countries either through Minangkabau International Airport (BIM) in Padang Pariaman Regency or Teluk Bayur Port in Padang,” he said.
According to him, domestic shipments of fishery products continue to run well starting from Jakarta, Surabaya, Bali and others. Some of these products are also exported from the region.
“This is what we need to develop and educate fish entrepreneurs in managing catches properly so that the quality of fish can be maintained properly,” he said.
He said the inspection carried out at Bungus Ocean Fishing Port in Padang City aims to ensure the quality of fish to be exported.
“Ships unload fish at this port once a week and we want to ensure that the catch to be exported is in accordance with existing regulations,” he said.
