BSSN: BSI Needs Digital Forensics and to be Open About Hacking

JABAR EKSPRES –The National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN) encourages Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) to be more open and conduct digital forensic analysis regarding the hacking case experienced.

This was said by BSSN Deputy for Cybersecurity & Government Passwords and Human Development, Sulistyo, at the soft launching of the “National Cybersecurity Connect 2023” event in Jakarta, Tuesday (16/5).

“To find out (information related to hacking), immediately do digital forensics. You can’t just judge without the help of valid data,” he said.

Sulistyo said that every electronic system operator (PSE) basically needs Data Protection Officers (DPO), officials or officers responsible for ensuring security and mitigating the risk of data protection violations.

Although further examination is needed, he said PSEs can be sanctioned if negligent in data protection.

“We see in Law 27 that if the data processor or data controller, processing until the data security process is not in accordance with security standards, the institution will be subject to sanctions, but we have to look at it again,” Sulistyo explained.

Furthermore, Sulistyo explained that BSI also needs to interact and provide information about what is actually happening openly, both to the authorities, in this case the Financial Services Authority (OJK), as well as the public and customers.

“Of course (BSI) must interact openly between those who have problems with the authorities, as well as the public, but there is no coercion,” he said.

BSI again issued a statement following the circulation of information that LockBit 3.0, which is Ransomware as a Service (RaaS), was rumored to have released data on the results of its cyberattacks to BSI’s system on the Dark Web.

The news was obtained from Twitter account user @darktracer_int, who said that negotiations between BSI and LockBit were not reached.

BSI is also committed to continuing to strengthen banking cyber defense and security, and always urges customers to remain vigilant and careful of all forms of fraud modes on behalf of Bank Syariah Indonesia.
