JABAR EKSPRES —Former Chairman of the Democratic, Anas Urbaningrum, stated that the first Vice President of Indonesia Mohammad Hatta (Bung Hatta) was a figure who was firm on democracy in Indonesia.
“Bung Hatta is a figure who is concerned about the values and principles of democracy, including his will, not wanting to be buried in the heroes’ cemetery, even though he is super very worthy,” he said in Jakarta, Monday (17/4).
This was conveyed by Anas after visiting Bung Hatta’s grave at the Tanah Kusir Public Cemetery Complex (TPU), South Jakarta.

According to Anas, Bung Hatta wanted to give a message that the main democracy is the people. At the end of his life, Bung Hatta wanted to be laid to rest with ordinary people.
“Not the place, but the basic message, which must be part of building democracy,” he emphasized.
In addition, he said, Bung Hatta and Soekarno (Bung Karno) were the founders of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as important symbols. They were trusted on behalf of the Indonesian people when proclaiming Indonesia’s independence.
“It is obligatory for us to respect and remember that history and revive that history,” he hoped.
Although they are gone, Anas said, it is thanks to the services of the heroes, especially the two of them, that Indonesia can be formed today.
“It is the duty of the younger generation to continue the spirit of their struggle,” he said.
Anas Urbaningrum is a convict in the Hambalang corruption case who was released from Class 1 Sukamiskin Correctional Institution (Lapas), Bandung on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
