Erick Thohir wants The Quality of PSSI Referees at a High Level

JABAR EKSPRES – Chairman of the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) Erick Thohir stated that his party will continue to strive so that the quality of PSSI referees is at the top level in leading all league competitions that rotate in the country.

“I’ve said it before, the reason I chair the referee committee is none other than so that this corps, which has been highlighted a lot, gets better quality every time,” Erick said in a written statement, Tuesday (9/5).

According to Erick, improving the quality of league competition, both league 1 and league 2, must be paralleled by the improved leadership quality of the referees on the green field so that the competition can run clean, fair, and according to the applicable match rules.

This was revealed by Erick Thohir welcoming the implementation of the 2023 referee assessment workshop which is a collaboration between PSSI, FIFA, and the Japan Football Association (JFA), which was held in Surabaya, September 4-7, 2023.

Previously, PSSI and JFA had undergone concrete cooperation in the field of refereeing by holding selections, courses, and workshops for league referees 1 and 2 competition season 2023/2024.

“If before, we have held selections, course, and workshops for referees by involving JFA, then this time the performance appraisers of the referees who have been educated also need to increase their knowledge. By involving FIFA and also the JFA, I am optimistic that efforts to restore the image of our referees who are still underestimated will be successful,” Erick Thohir explained.

Referee training followed 25 the participants aimed to provide knowledge to the participants about the methods and mechanisms in referee assessment, referee training for League 1 assistant referees, socialization of laws of the game (LOTG), referee committees with League clubs 1 and League 2, instructor courses and refreshers, and selection of CI and CII referees for the U-25 Putra Putri.
