JABAR EKSPRES – The Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru facilitated the repatriation of an Indonesian citizen who claimed to have been tortured by her Malaysian employer in a video that went viral on social media.

Sigit said Dewi ran away from her employer’s house because she was allegedly carrying some money.

She entered Malaysia on June 15, 2023 unprocedurally without a work visa and worked as a housemaid. Based on CCTV footage, Dewi was indeed seen running away from her employer’s house.

In the viral video, Dewi claimed to have been tortured by her employer who confiscated her passport and cellphone. However, Consul General Sigit said Dewi did not belong to a vulnerable group and there were also no signs of beatings.

The Consulate General, according to him, has tried to get information from Dewi, such as the name and address of her employer, as well as the name of the labor broker who brought her into Malaysia. However, no information was obtained from Dewi, except for the desire to return home immediately.

A Travel Passport (SPLP) was issued by the Indonesian Consulate General in Johor Bahru on July 17 after approval from Malaysian Immigration. Dewi had also paid a fine of 100 ringgit (around Rp329,000) for overstaying for three days.
