JABAR EKSPRES – Puteri Indonesia 2022 Laksmi De-Neefe Suardana believes that education can be one of the solutions in society to fight climate change or climate crisis.
“For me, education is one of the solutions to fight climate change, one of the most important solutions. And also education is sustainability, sustainability is education,” Laksmi said when attending a press conference of the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia (FPCI) in Jakarta, Wednesday (6/21).
(During her time as Puteri Indonesia 2022, Laksmi said, she focused more on education issues. After the Puteri Indonesia crown has passed this year, she wants to focus more on environmental and sustainability issues.
“So that (education) is actually my first step to contribute as a young person to fight climate change,” she said.
Laksmi also expressed her commitment to focus on environmental sustainability issues and apply them in every activity carried out from the realm of fashion to business.
“Whatever I do must move towards sustainability because it is the future. If we don’t follow sustainability or implement sustainability from now on, we will be left behind,” she said.
Laksmi admits that she feels lucky to have attended an international-based junior high school that implemented a curriculum that included climate change issues.
According to her, a curriculum on climate change is very important to be implemented in schools as many young people are currently worried about their future.
“That’s why I really believe that education is sustainability and sustainability is education. How we can really work together towards a net zero and sustainable future is starting now from education,” Laksmi said.
As a person who grew up in Bali, Laksmi has long been concerned with environmental issues given that the people of her region live by prioritizing the philosophy of balancing spiritual relationships, the environment, and fellow humans.
