There were different emotions for another former top-10 player returning to grass courts, Elina Svitolina losing 2-6, 0-6 to 18-year-old Czech Linda Fruhvirtova in less than an hour.
Svitolina made a brilliant comeback on clay after the birth of her daughter Skai last October by reaching the quarterfinals of the French Open, but the 28-year-old could not find her footing on grass.
“I struggled at the beginning and obviously on grass you don’t have time to adjust. For me, it didn’t happen today but I will go to the practice court and try to do better next time,” Svitolina said.
