JABAR EKSPRES – Sedentary lifestyles often occur among office workers who almost daily sit indoors for eight to 10 hours per day doing monotonous activities in front of computers and occasional meetings, according to Sequis.
At lunchtime, some of them remain in the room so they rarely exert much energy and walk less. Eating snacks, coffee or contemporary drinks is often a complement to work.
According to the Ministry of Health, a sedentary lifestyle refers to any type of activity outside of bedtime characterized by very little calorie output. Based on the duration of time, this lifestyle is divided into low level in less than two hours, medium level in two to five hours and high level in more than five hours.

Sequis Senior Manager Medical Underwriter Dr. Fridolin Seto Pandu in his written statement, Saturday (10/6) reminded, there are health risks from sedentary lifestyles such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease.
Therefore, Fridolin recommends that people reduce this lifestyle habit by fighting laziness to move and increasing self-motivation to do more physical activity.

Especially for office workers, they can use the remaining lunch time to do light activities such as walking. Then when working, they should avoid sitting positions that can cause back and neck pain.
“In ideal conditions when sitting, try to keep your posture upright. The position of the feet is also important to note, get used to the feet always being on the floor so that the circulation of blood flow is smoother,” said Fridolin.
He advises people to stretch for about five to 10 minutes in between work.
“It is very good if at least three to four times a week exercise for 30-40 minutes to keep the body fit,” he said.
