Mastercard Asia Pacific President Ari Sarker said this collaboration could be an opportunity to advance the digital economy that can promise wider opportunities for many people and realize the journey towards a truly inclusive economy.
“Mastercard is therefore excited to collaborate with Indosat, a partner that shares Mastercard’s commitment to supporting Indonesians towards a digital future, bringing more individuals and SMEs into the digital ecosystem, and helping advance inclusive growth for the Indonesian economy,” he said.
The partnership also affirms Mastercard’s commitment to bring 1 billion people and 50 million micro and small businesses into the digital economy globally by 2025.
Today, as the largest economy in Southeast Asia, Indonesia is recording significant growth in the value of the digital economy. By 2025, it is estimated that the value of Indonesia’s digital economy will double to US$130 billion (Rp1,944 trillion) and continue to increase to US$220 billion (Rp3,290 trillion) to US$360 billion (Rp5,383 trillion) by 2030.
This growth is in line with the changing demographics and consumer behavior in Indonesia that has undergone drastic changes in recent years, especially with the use of smartphones that increasingly encourage digital payment methods and cashless transactions.
