JABAR EKSPRES – The Government of Shanghai City has an initiative to strengthen friendly cooperation with the Regional Government of Yogyakarta.
The relationship between the two governments has been established since 2016. And now, the Shanghai Government intends to strengthen this bond.
“Both parties agree to continue the friendly cooperation that has been established since the signing of the memorandum of understanding,” said the Head of the Investment and One-Stop Service Office for the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Agus Priono, on the official website of the DIY Regional Government, Sunday (30/4).
The memorandum of understanding between the DI Yogyakarta Government and the Shanghai Government was signed on April 12 2016. The memorandum contains Friendly Cooperation and Exchange.
“The text of the agreement actually expired in 2021,” he said.
The Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng, and the Responsible Regional Secretary of DIY, Wiyos Santoso, discussed strengthening this cooperation at Ndalem Ageng, Kepatihan Complex, Friday (28/4).
During the meeting, it was stated that the two parties had agreed to improve cooperation in various fields which they believed that the results of this cooperation would bring progress to both regions.
The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is what has delayed efforts to renew this cooperation agreement.
Agus revealed that this year the Governor of DI Yogyakarta, Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X and the Mayor of Shanghai, Gong Zheng, could sign the ratification of the cooperation which is valid for the next five years.
According to him also, there are five areas of association that include the memorandum of understanding. Among them are business, trade, and technology; tourist; culture; education; and maintenance of the living environment and management of green areas and urban planning.
“The DIY Regional Government hopes that the cooperation agreement signed by the two parties can actually be implemented in real activities. So, the benefits can be felt by the people in both regions,” he explained.
