JABAR EKSPRES– A clinical nutrition specialist from the DKI Jakarta branch of the Indonesian Clinical Nutrition Doctors Association (PDGKI), dr. Raissa Edwina Djuanda, M. Gizi, Sp.G.K reminds people to limit the coconut milk in Eid dishes to avoid health problems.
Some foods during Lebaran are synonymous with coconut milk, such as jackfruit curry or meat and chicken opor. In addition to gravy, a typical Eid food that also contains coconut milk is meat rendang.
“Actually, there is no specific limit on how many servings of coconut milk gravy can or cannot be consumed, but it should be limited. If you want to consume the dish, it is better to take the side dishes only,” Raissa said on Friday (21/4).

Raissa, who earned a master’s degree in nutrition science and a clinical nutrition specialist from the University of Indonesia’s Faculty of Medicine, said the impact of eating food with coconut milk in large portions will not be immediately felt by the body, however, there are a number of health risks lurking, such as obesity, high cholesterol, diabetes, and gout.
In order to avoid these health risks, besides limiting coconut milk, Raissa also recommends that people balance their food intake with adequate consumption of vegetables and fruits.
Fruits and vegetables can add vitamins, minerals, and daily fiber in the body so it is highly recommended to consume as many as five servings per day and eat in a variety.
“Fruits and vegetables should be consumed before the main meal to reduce overeating,” Raissa advises.
She added that people can consume various foods and beverages freely during Lebaran, however, they should keep in mind the portion so as not to overdo it.
Also, fulfill your daily fluid needs by drinking at least eight glasses of water per day and exercise to burn fat and some of the calories.
