JABAR EKSPRES – Retro walking is an exercise that can burn more calories than regular walking. It can also improve physical and mental health, improve balance, and improve heart and lung function.
As reported by the India Today page, Sunday (8/27), an Indian gastroenterologist Dr. Pal Manickam said walking backwards can increase the endurance of the lower leg muscles.
“When walking backwards, you are not recommended to do it quickly like walking forward. Do your backward walking routine with care and short steps, it can be a good idea for health improvement,” says Manickam.
Even when coupled with regular walking, backward walking can improve cardiovascular health. In addition, walking backwards also improves slouching posture due to excessive screen time and other activities.
“Walking backwards requires more concentration than walking forwards so it helps stimulate the cerebellum, the part of the brain responsible for motor control,” she said.
Manickam added, for mental benefits, walking backwards can help stimulate brain activity and improve cognitive function.
By challenging the brain to coordinate movements in different directions, walking backwards can improve neural efficiency leading to sharper thinking and better memory retention.
