Inter Miami Finalize Transfer of Sergio Busquets!

JABAR EKSPRES – Inter Miami officially completed the transfer of former Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets on a two-year contract until 2025, revealed the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Sunday (7/16).

The 35-year-old midfielder will reunite with former teammate Lionel Messi who has also just been officially introduced as a new Inter Miami player.

“I am delighted to welcome Sergio Busquets to Inter Miami,” Inter Miami co-owner Jorge Mas was quoted as saying by AFP.

“From day one, we have been preparing to present the world’s best players. Sergio needs no introduction.”

Busquets said in May that he would leave Barcelona after his contract expired at the end of last season, ending his 18-year career with the Catalonia club.

With Barcelona, he made 700 appearances in all competitions and won nine LaLiga trophies, seven Copa del Rey, three Champions League and three Club World Cup titles.

While his career at international level has been no less successful, he made 134 appearances for the Spanish national team and led his country to win the 2010 World Cup, Euro 2012 and the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League.

The arrival of Messi and Busquets is expected to lift the performance of Inter Miami, who are currently at the bottom of the Major League Soccer eastern region standings.

Inter Miami extended their winless streak to 11 matches after losing to St. Louis City 0-3 on Sunday (7/16), their 14th defeat in 22 matches.

Messi is expected to make his debut on Friday (7/28) against Cruz Azul in the Liga Cup, a tournament featuring all the top teams from MLS and Mexico’s Liga MX.

Inter Miami also said that Busquets could also play in the same match.
