JABAR EKSPRES – The DS PENSKE racing team said their two drivers, Jean-Éric Vergne and Stoffel Vandoorne, were able to master the inaugural edition of Formula E Portland, United States, last weekend despite the challenging race.
Quoted from the team’s official statement received on Monday, since the first free practice session (FP), the DS PENSKE drivers put their DS E-TENSE FE23 cars in the front row.
Vergne was the second fastest overall, while Vandoorne was in seventh position. The French and Belgian drivers continued their performances in qualifying, where they were classified sixth and 10th respectively, until they were eventually penalized for technical problems.
“It was a difficult race for the team, with the final result far from our potential. We were very fast during free practice, especially in 300 Kw mode, and in qualifying we saw Vergne qualify for the duel phase,” said DS Performance Director Eugenio Franzetti.

“Unfortunately, the team was penalized for having some equipment in the pitlane used to scan the codes on the tires. Obviously this is not something that affects the powertrain and performance of the car, but the consequence is that we have to start the race from the pitlane,” he added.
The main race started with Vergne and Vandoorne 21st and 22nd on the grid, and they fought back throughout the race until they eventually finished 12th and 13th in Formula E Portland.
Meanwhile, Vergne said he still wanted to try to keep up his best performance despite having had a tough weekend in Portland.

“It’s a shame because the car was good and I felt very confident. So we need to keep our heads up and keep giving everything,” said the 2018 and 2019 Formula E champion.
