The Majority of Hajj 2023 Participants are Women and Housewives by Profession

JABAR EKSPRES – The number of hajj pilgrims departing from the country to the Holy Land this year is 558 batches with 209,782 hajj participants and the majority of them are women with a ratio of 55.1 percent of women, the remaining 44.9 percent are men.

Chairman of the Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) Saudi Arabia 1444 H/2023 M Subhan Cholid in Mecca, Saturday (6/24) explained that the majority or as many as 57,178 people as housewives.

Others are 43,253 private employees, 42,368 civil servants, 29,082 farmers, 18,069 traders, 9,389 retirees, 4,214 students, 3,137 state-owned employees, and 3,092 with various other professions.

Subhan said of the total 209,782 Indonesian hajj pilgrims who arrived in the Holy Land this year, 99.57 percent, 98.34 percent of them had not yet performed hajj and only 1.66 percent had already performed hajj.

The majority of Indonesian hajj pilgrims in terms of education, he said, as many as 67,543 pilgrims graduated from elementary school, 23,819 (junior high school), 50,252 (high school), 12,056 (Diploma), 46,793 (S1), 7,403 (S2), 537 (S3), and 1,379 with other levels of education.

From the elderly, Subhan continued, there are 61,536 people in the elderly category, the most from Solo Embarkation with 11,800 people, followed by Surabaya Embarkation (10,158), Jakarta-Bekasi (8,036), and Jakarta-Pondok Gede (7,139).

“There are 5,791 members of the congregation with disabilities, consisting of 3,659 women and 2,132 men. The majority departed from Embarkation Surabaya (811), Solo (771), Jakarta-Pondok Gede (489), Makassar (489), and Batam (268),” he said.

He mentioned 133 people died and 74 of them or 5.55 percent were in the elderly category (65 years and over) with details of 96 people died in Mecca, 34 people in Medina, and three people in Jeddah.

 

The PPIH Saudi Arabia has distributed 7,774,944 catering boxes for pilgrims in Mecca and 2,588,922 catering boxes for Indonesian pilgrims while in Medina (including the second batch of pilgrims who landed and transited in Medina).

“PPIH Saudi Arabia prepared 213,572 catering boxes distributed at King Abdul Aziz International Airport, Jeddah. So, a total of 10,577,438 catering boxes have been distributed during the arrival phase of Indonesian pilgrims in the Holy Land,” he said.
