United Nations Welcomes Deal Between US and China to Stabilize Relations

Jabar EkspresThe United Nations on Monday welcomed an agreement between the United States and China to stabilize their strained relationship following a visit to Beijing by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

“Any dialogue between the US and China on this (relationship) is very important to improve coordination on broader key issues,” said United Nations deputy spokesman Farhan Haq.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with Chinese President Xi Jinping for talks on Monday, the latest high-level meeting between the world’s top two economies since Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US President Joe Biden in November 2022 in Indonesia.

Xi said the two sides made progress and reached agreement on certain issues.

Blinken said some salient differences remain and both sides are open to further talks.

He said military-to-military relations are very important, adding that he “repeatedly” raised the issue with Chinese officials.

Relations between the US and China soured during the Trump administration’s trade war and have since been strained by conflicts over Taiwan and alleged Chinese spy balloons over the US.
