Bali Immigration Deports Palestinian Drug Ex-convict

JABAR EKSPRES – The Immigration Office in Bali deported a foreign national from Palestine for being an ex-convict in a drug case.

“Foreigners who are considered to be able to disturb public security and order, Immigration officials can impose a lifetime ban,” said Head of the Denpasar Immigration Detention Center (Rudenim) Babay Baenullah in Denpasar, Saturday.

However, the decision on the period of deterrence will be decided by the Directorate General of Immigration by looking at and considering all cases.

The lifetime bans for the Palestinian with the initials AMHM is in accordance with Article 99 in conjunction with Article 102 paragraph 3 of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.

He explained that AMHM had already served a sentence of one year and six months imprisonment at the Bangli State Detention Center, Bali.

The 38-year-old man was released from prison on April 22, 2023 and handed over to the Denpasar Immigration Office.

However, AMHM could not be deported immediately so he was temporarily placed in the Denpasar Detention Center for a total of 56 days until he was finally forcibly repatriated to Palestine on Friday (6/16).

Based on immigration records, AMHM entered Indonesia in February 2019 on vacation.

However, in March 2019, he registered himself as a refugee with the representative office of the United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) in Indonesia.

He then gave up his refugee status to leave Indonesia before being deported.

Then, on December 14, 2021, the man was arrested by police officers for conducting a drug transaction in front of a modern shop in Kuta, Badung Regency.

From his pocket, the officer at that time found a plastic clip containing clear crystals containing methamphetamine with a net weight of 0.16 grams which he admitted for his own consumption.

Based on the records of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of Bali Province, Immigration on the Island of the Gods from January to June 12, 2023, deported 144 foreigners.
