BMKG Detects 16 New Heat Points in East Kalimantan

JABAR EKSPRES – The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) Balikpapan Station in its detection found 16 hotspots spread across East Kalimantan (Kaltim), so all parties are urged to protect each other from the addition of new heat points.

“The 16 heat points were monitored throughout Saturday (June 10) from 01.00 to 24.00 WITA,” said Data and Information Coordinator of the Class I Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan BMKG Balikpapan Meteorological Station Diyan Novrida in Balikpapan, Sunday.

He appealed to all related parties and layers of East Kalimantan society to always be vigilant so that there are no more heat points, such as not throwing cigarette butts carelessly on dry land or in forests.

Moreover, he said, East Kalimantan is currently approaching the dry season, so there will be many dry twigs and leaves that are easily burned. Even farmers and planters are also urged not to burn when managing land.

Heat points are indicators of forest or land fires detected from a location that has a relatively high temperature compared to the surrounding temperature.

He continued that the distribution of 16 monitored hotspots has been informed to related parties, including the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) for further action.

Two days earlier, on Friday (9/6), his office also detected 10 hotspots in East Kalimantan and spread across four regencies, namely in East Kutai, Kutai Kartanegara, Berau, and Paser regencies.

Meanwhile, the 16 hotspots monitored on Saturday (10/6) were new hotspots that appeared in different locations with different coordinates.

The 16 hotspots are scattered in four regions, namely Balikpapan and Kutai Kartanegara with one each, East Kutai with 11 spots, and Berau with three spots.

The details are that the heat points in Balikpapan are in Balikpapan City District, in Kutai Kartanegara District in Loa Kulu District, in Berau spread in Gunung Tabur, Sambaliung, and Teluk Bayur Districts.

“In East Kutai Regency, 11 hotspots were detected in two sub-districts, namely Bengalon sub-district where there are seven hotspots and Kaubun sub-district where there are three hotspots,” Diyan said.
