Faculty of Medicine UGM Lecturer Creates App to Help with Cardiac Arrest Treatment

JABAR EKSPRES – Faculty of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing (FKKMK) lecturer at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Dr Nurkholis Majid, has created the “SatuJantung” application to help handle cardiac arrest cases.

Nurkholis, in a written statement from UGM Public Relations in Yogyakarta on Thursday, said the idea for the app came to him and his wife when their son suffered a sudden cardiac arrest.

“The officer who handled my son at that time said that if it wasn’t for his parents being doctors, maybe my son would not have survived,” he recalled.

From that experience, Nurkholis and his wife Beta Ahlam Gizela were moved to create a tool that could help people in the event of a heart attack in the absence of health workers.

He explains that the main feature of the “Satu Jantung” app is an alarm for heart attack and cardiac arrest patients that can be operated with just one click.

In addition, the app includes how to perform heart massage as a guide for helpers who have never had training.

From Nurkholis’ research, about 10 out of 100 cardiac arrest patients who receive first aid in the form of heart massage can be saved.

However, cardiac arrest patients who receive first aid in the form of heart massage have a three times greater chance of being saved than those who do not receive help.

“Don’t make this fact an obstacle for us to help each other,” he said.

Lecturer of Forensic Science and Medikolegal Department at the Faculty, Rusyad Adi Suriyanto, said that he had experienced a heart attack.

As a heart attack patient, according to him, care from the neighbourhood is needed because people who have a heart attack need quick help.

“This concern will be the basis for the ‘Satu Jantung’ application,” said Rusyad Adi Suriyanto.
