UN Condemns Killing of Palestinian Toddler by Israeli Forces

JABAR EKSPRES – The United Nations (UN) has condemned the killing of a Palestinian toddler by Israeli forces.

“I condemn and am deeply saddened by the death of a two-year-old Palestinian boy, who was seriously wounded by Israeli security forces fire in Al-Nabi Saleh,” UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Tor Wennesland said on Twitter.

He explained that civilians, especially children, continue to bear the brunt of the conflict and urged Israeli authorities to take action against those responsible.

Earlier on Monday (6/5), the Palestinian Health Ministry announced the death of two-year-old Mohammad Tamimi, who was seriously wounded on June 1, 2023 when Israeli forces opened fire on a car in Nabi Saleh town near Ramallah.

Tamimi’s father was also injured in the attack.

The Israeli army said a preliminary investigation showed that two Palestinian gunmen allegedly opened fire on a nearby settlement, and Israeli forces responded to the gunfire.

Admitting to accidentally shooting the toddler, the Israeli army expressed regret after hurting the non-combatant and working to prevent such incidents.

However, the child’s father disputed Israel’s narrative and said there was no firefight in the area. The father instead accused Israeli forces of firing directly at his car.

Tensions have peaked in the occupied West Bank in recent months, amid repeated Israeli attacks on Palestinian towns.

According to Palestinian figures, more than 155 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces since the beginning of this year. At least 21 Israelis were also killed in separate attacks during the same period.
