JABAR EKSPRES –The cultural event in the form of the 183rd Gawia Sowa in Jagoi Babang, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan Province (West Kalimantan) which was successfully held has always been the destination of foreign tourists, including from neighboring Sarawak, Malaysia.
“This year the Gawia Sowa event is not only enlivened by local tourists, but also from foreign countries, one of which is from Sirikin Village, Malaysia,” said Bengkayang Regent, Sebastianus Darwis, when contacted in Bengkayang, Monday (6/6).
He added that in Gawia Sowa the foreign tourists also participated in several competitions and entertainment events. This is to add to the excitement of the annual activity which has become the Bengkayang Regency tourism calendar.

“To enliven Gawia activities this year, it also presents folk entertainment, one of which presents dayak artists from Sarawak Malaysia. Other activities include banquets at residents’ homes, as well as traditional competitions, such as catapult competitions, chopstick competitions, creative dance competitions, and children’s fashion show competitions, and many other activities,” he said again.
Regarding Gawia Sowa, he explained that apart from being a tourist attraction, it is also an effort and momentum to promote local wisdom and togetherness.
“Let’s make cultural activities like this to raise local wisdom in Bengkayang Regency, and strengthen our togetherness so that advanced, superior and competitive Bengkayang can be realized,” he also said.
He invited the entire community to continue to enliven other cultural activities that will be held in the near future, including Ngerantek Sawa Bahu VII in Lumar District on June 9, 2023, and the International Dayak Bidayuh Festival or Nibakng / Nyobeng in Sebujit, Siding District on June 15, 2023.
