JABAR EKSPRES – The Panel of Judges of the Palembang District Court, South Sumatra, sentenced three commissioners of the Prabumulih City Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) as defendants in the alleged corruption of grant funds for the 2017-2018 budget to three years and 10 months and four years in prison respectively.
The verdict was read out by presiding judge Sahlan Effendi, for defendants Herman Julaidi, M Iqbal Rivana, and Iin Susanti as commissioners of the Prabumulih City Bawaslu, in a hearing at the Palembang District Court, Tuesday (6/7).
“The court hereby sentences the defendants Herman Julaidi and M Iqbal Rivana to four years’ imprisonment and the defendant Iin Susanti to three years and 10 months’ imprisonment, reduced while the defendants are in detention,” said presiding judge Sahlan.

In addition, the panel of judges also sentenced the defendants to a fine of Rp100 million each in lieu of three months imprisonment, and the three defendants were sentenced to additional punishment to return compensation for state losses worth Rp210 million.
The panel of judges considered that the defendants did not control and supervise the expenditure of the Prabumulih Bawaslu grant funds in the implementation of regional head elections, so that the element of benefiting themselves and other people or corporations was fulfilled.
This is as stipulated in Article 3 in conjunction with Article 18 of Indonesian Law (UU) Number 31 of 1999 which has been amended and supplemented in Law Number 20 of 2021 concerning the eradication of criminal acts of corruption, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1), Article 64 of the Criminal Code which was alleged by the Public Prosecutor of the Prabumulih District Prosecutor’s Office against the defendants.
After hearing the verdict of the panel of judges, the three defendants expressed their thoughts on an appeal.
Previously, the Public Prosecutor of the Prabumulih District Prosecutor’s Office in the indictment hearing on Friday (5/5) explained that the defendant Herman Julaidi together with Iqbal Rivana and Iin Susanti, who at that time were the chairman and members of the Prabumulih City Election Supervisory Board, had jointly committed unlawful acts in accordance with the article charged.
