JABAR EKSPRES – Malaysian Prime Minister, Anwar Ibrahim said, that the work of journalists in the mass media is not only a recorder but also an idea generator.
“The work of journalists is not only media recorders but also originators of ideas based on values,” Anwar said in a speech at the culmination of Malaysia’s 2023 National Journalists Day (HAWANA) 2023 celebration in Ipoh, Perak, Sunday (5/28).
He said that if we talk about Malaysia being civil and democratic, it means that the country wants to apply values. Not a narrow understanding that can weaken and demoralize or divide the people.
So the cultivation of values is important, and civilization is special and unique because the emphasis on values and morals underlies thinking in the fields of development, freedom, and journalism, Anwar said.

“So I urge colleagues to realize that to disseminate information based on knowledge and values,” he said.
According to Anwar, journalists must have an effort among themselves and media drivers, to ensure that the young among them can be given upbringing not just discipline in college or university.
He said they must also know their history, interpret life and how the position of the people and the state can be elevated with noble values that are happy with security, brotherhood, humanity and rejecting evil, corruption, oppression that will forget the community itself and tear down the strength built today.
For example, he said that when talking about the current anti-graft movement, a media colleague in a conversation with him mentioned that we should give freedom to efforts to reject graft, and enough free space for the corrupt to defend themselves.
“I think that view is strange to give space to defend themselves. If they are clean, that’s fine. But defending corruptors, oppressors, criminals, it is certainly not natural in one country if we want to raise the degree and dignity of the nation and state,” Anwar said, emphasizing.
