JABAR EKSPRES – Eight goals were scored as Liverpool drew 4-4 with Southampton in the final week of the Premier League season at St Mary’s Stadium on Sunday (28/5) evening.
The Reds took the lead through goals from Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino before Southampton forced the first half to finish 2-2 through goals from James Ward-Prowse and Kamal-Deen Sulemana.
Southampton regained the lead thanks to goals from Sulemana and Adam Armsstrong. Liverpool then made the match end in a draw through goals from Gakpo and Diogo Jota.
This result makes Liverpool close the 2022/2023 season in fifth place in the Premier League standings with 67 points. Meanwhile Southampton must “caste down” to the Championship division because they are at the bottom of the standings with 25 points.

The Reds took the lead 1-0 in the 10th minute. Romeo Lavia gave a short pass into the penalty box, which was then cut by Diogo Jota and immediately kicked into Alex McCarthy’s goal.
Liverpool made it 2-0 five minutes later. Fabino passed the ball to Roberto Firmino who then outwitted the opposition defender before shooting into the net.
Soouthampton hit back with a goal in the 19th minute. The neat play of Carlos Jonas Alcaraz and Kamal-Deen Sulemana was completed with James Ward-Prowse’s shot which Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kellehrt failed. The score became 1-2.
The home team was able to score an equalizer in the 28th minute through Sulemana’s shot after receiving Theo Walcott’s through ball. The score became 2-2.
Southampton started the second half well after scoring the third goal in the 48th minute. A counter-attack was completed with Sulemana’s shot from outside the penalty box which successfully made the score 3-2.
Jordan Henderson made a blunder in the 64th minute when his bait ball in the middle of the field fell to Adam Armstrong. The substitute then dribbled into the penalty box before firing a shot to make it 4-2 to Southampton.
