DPR Members Ask BRIN to Take Firm Action Against AP Hasanuddin

JABAR EKSPRES —Member of Commission X of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Zainuddin Maliki, asked the leadership of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to take firm action against researcher AP Hasanuddin, who is considered to have damaged the spirit of tolerance on social media.

“The person concerned has apologized, but I hope BRIN will continue to educate and take firm steps against the researcher so as not to damage the spirit of tolerance that is being built together with great difficulty,” he said in a written statement in Jakarta, Tuesday (25/4).

According to him, it is very inappropriate for a researcher of a national research institute who is not ready to accept differences to even issue death threats.

According to Zainuddin, not only AP Hasanuddin, but also Thomas Djamaluddin also needs to be disciplined.

“In fact, Prof. Thomas’ comments on Facebook as a source of AP Hasanuddin issuing death threats, must also be sanctioned, even more severely,” he said.

The former Rector of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya said the Indonesian nation was yearning for the development of educated and civilized humans.

“But it is sad to find a researcher of a national research institute thinking shallowly and arrogantly in responding to differences,” he said.

According to him, the low level of civilization concerned as a researcher and in no way reflects his capacity as an intellectual in social media has tarnished BRIN.

The threatening comment to Muhammadiyah residents was uploaded by Andi Pangeran Hasanuddin, under the account name AP Hasanuddin, who is known to be a BRIN astronomy researcher.

AP Hasanuddin commented on a link uploaded by another BRIN researcher named Thomas Jamaluddin about the different methods of determining the day of Eid 2023.

Initially, Thomas commented that Muhamamdiyah had disobeyed the Government’s decision because it set Eid al-Fitr 1444 H differently from the government’s determination, and Thomas’ comment was replied to by AP Hasanuddin’s account.
