Temanggung Coffee Skin Tea Enthusiasts Reach Malaysia

JABAR EKSPRES —Tea made from arabica coffee fruit skins (cascara) from Kledung, Temanggung Regency, Central Java, is in demand by Malaysia, said CV Kwadungan Java Coffee (KJC) owner, Zainal Arifin.

Zainal in Temanggung, Thursday (6/4), said there was a demand for cascara from Malaysian importers as much as 8.5 tons.

“The request occurred when we exhibited in Jakarta some time ago and we were able to fulfill it after the harvest period this year, because the amount was quite large,” he said.

Apart from Malaysia, he said there was also a request from Dubai, but it was only an exploration of 2.5 quintals tea made from arabica coffee fruit skins (cascara).

He said the price of the exported coffee skin tea was around Rp70,000 per kilogram.

Touching on coffee exports, he said that this month there were already incoming requests, namely from Morocco and Turkey.

“Possibly after Eid can be sent, because if the fasting month pity the energy,” he said.

According to him, finding export quality coffee is currently rather difficult, because Temanggung coffee is also in great demand domestically.

“So the demand for Temanggung coffee in the country is also busy, even local demand is also very much,” he said.

Joko Budi Nuryanto, Head of the Food Security, Agriculture and Fisheries Office of Temanggung Regency, said that to meet the increasing demand, it is his duty to continue to multiply coffee plants.

“But not only to increase the number of plants, but also to encourage farmers to rejuvenate old plants because their productivity has dropped,” he said.
