Spain climbs to second place in Group A of the 2023 European Cup Qualifiers

JABAR EKSPRES – The Spanish national team took second place in the Group A standings of the 2024 European Cup Qualifiers after defeating Cyprus by a score of 6-0 at Los Carmenes Stadium, Granada.

Spain’s victory over Cyprus was obtained thanks to goals scored by Gavi, Mikel Merino, Joselu, Ferran Torres, and Alex Baena, according to records from UEFA.

Currently, Spain have a total of 9 points from four matches and are only six points adrift of first-placed Scotland, while Cyprus are at the bottom of the table with no points.

Statistically, Spain clearly controlled the game with 70 percent possession and recorded 23 shots, 12 of which were on target. Spain started first in the first half and dominated possession, but in the first 15 minutes no goals were scored.

Under the direction of coach Luis De La Fuente, Spain managed to score the first goal in the 18th minute after a pass from Nico Willams was struck by Gavi with his foot, making the score 1-0.

Nico Willams again played a role in the creation of the second goal for Spain after his pass was received by Mikel Merino and made it 2-0 in the 33rd minute.

In the 39th minute, Spain almost scored again through Alvaro Morata who utilized the rebound from Lamine Yamal’s shot, but VAR canceled the goal because Morata was in an offside position. The 2-0 score lasted until the first half ended.

Entering the second half, Spain continued to control the game with strong possession, although they did not put much pressure, and only managed to add to the lead in the 70th minute through a goal scored by Joselu after receiving a pass from Dani Carvajal so that the score was 3-0.
