The Japanese Embassy in Beijing has warned via China’s social media platform Weibo that such disturbing phone calls may constitute a “criminal act” as calls directed at commercial facilities may result in economic disruption, while calls directed at hospitals may endanger lives.

The embassy has asked Japanese citizens in China not to speak Japanese loudly and to act cautiously.

The water release at Fukushima has also impacted Chinese group tour activities to Japan. Chinese media quoting travel agency officials reported that many Chinese people canceled their travel plans to the neighboring country.
