Marquez Satisfied with Honda’s Progress in Austrian MotoGP

JABAR EKSPRES – Repsol Honda rider Marc Marquez admitted that he was quite satisfied with the progress he made with the team that managed to finish the race in P12 at the Austrian MotoGP on Sunday (8/20).

“The result of this Grand Prix is the culmination of the new approach we took like at Silverstone. We tried to understand a lot of things with the bike and avoid crashing, finally we finished the race,” Marquez said, quoted from Honda’s official statement on Monday.

At the Austrian GP, Marquez was able to maintain his position throughout the opening lap and began to challenge those at the front for points.

The only rider to use the soft rear, Marquez was able to consistently outperform those at the front and joined the battle for the top ten in no time, eventually finishing in 12th position.

The P12 was the end of a series of DNFs that Marquez has collected since the start of the 2023 season. Marquez said he wants to continue this positive trend in the next rounds in the second half of the 2023 MotoGP.

“This (our technical approach now) is good for finishing races but obviously we are aiming for more and we have to keep working. It was a busy weekend in Austria and now we see what might happen in Montmelo,” said the older brother of Alex Marquez (Gresini Racing).

However, luck was not on his teammate Joan Mir’s side as he crashed mid-race at Turn 3.

“I’m not happy with the race, I felt we were going to have a solid weekend for our situation. It’s a shame I crashed and missed more laps,” said Mir.

Meanwhile, the 11th round of MotoGP will roll out at the Catalunya Circuit, Spain, which is scheduled for September 1-3.
