Former Manchester City Defender Benjamin Mendy Joins Lorient

Jabar Ekspres – Former Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy joined Ligue 1 or French League club Lorient with a contract duration of two years, as reported by the club’s official website, Wednesday.

“After fulfilling a traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy – world champion 2018, four-time Premier League winner under the colors of Manchester City, and French Ligue 1 champion with Monaco – came to strengthen the Lorient squad for this new season,” wrote Lorient.

The French defender’s contract with Manchester City expired in June and was not renewed by the club.

Previously, Mendy, who was charged with one count of rape and one count of attempted rape, was found not guilty by a Chester Crown Court jury in early July.

The former AS Monaco defender was also acquitted of six rape charges at his first trial in January.

In 2017, Mendy broke the record as the most expensive defender in the world when he was brought in by The Citizens from AS Monaco for 52 million pounds.

Together with Manchester City, Mendy has appeared 50 times and recorded two goals in all competitions.

Mendy last grazed the field in August 2021 when Manchester City met Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Player aged 29 that year had the opportunity to graze again when Lorient tried Bournemouth in the pre-season event, August 5.
