The Biathle/Triathle World Championship in Bali, according to Anthony, is a big event. In addition to the first event held in Asia, this world championship is also one of the events for athletes to get assessment points towards the Olympics.
“For MPI athletes and especially the people of Indonesia, this world championship will be a prestigious event as an effort to contribute in the form of achievements towards a higher rank, namely the world rank,” he said.
The Biathle/Triathle World Championship in Bali is not only to socialize modern pentathlon in Indonesia, but also to find and create potential Indonesian athletes, as well as a means of developing and empowering the talents of MPI athletes, especially in international events.
“We hope that young athletes who are selected from all over Indonesia and selected from the best, can get points and scores for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles and the 2032 Olympics in Australia,” Anthony said.
Before holding the Biathle/Triathle World Championships in Bali on November 1 – 5, 2023, UIPM will first hold the U-17 Pentathlon World Championships in Alexandria, Egypt on July 11 – 16, 2023. This will be followed by the Pentathlon and Laser Run World Championships in Bath – Great Britain on August 19 – 21, 2023.
According to Anthony, Indonesia’s appointment as host of the Biathle/Triathle World Championship cannot be separated from Indonesia’s success in organizing modern pentathlon as one of the sports that was first competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang.
“At that time, the government through the Ministry of Youth and Sports appointed MPI as the host and organizer of the modern pentathlon championship at the 2018 Asian Games,” he said.
With limited athletes at that time, Indonesia was listed as the youngest participating country. “However, MPI male athletes were able to penetrate the top 10 Asian rankings by getting several medals,” said Anthony.
