Swiatek Breezes Through Wimbledon Warm-Up Tournament Bad Homburg

JABAR EKSPRES – World number one Iga Swiatek had a smooth ride in the Wimbledon warm-up tournament, the Bad Homburg Open, when he beat Jil Teichman 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16, Wednesday (6/28) local time.

“I think this is my first grass court quarter-final, very excited,” Swiatek said, as broadcast AFP, Thursday (6/29).

The Swiss tennis player put Swiatek under pressure at the start of the match. However, the Polish tennis player who just won his third French Open title managed to survive.

After that, Swiatek dominated the serve until the last game when he saved two break points.

Swiatek made the breakthrough in the fifth game. He then cruised to the final game of the match.

The 22-year-old has long struggled on grass courts. He has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon, having made at least the semi-finals of every other Grand Slam.

“For sure, today was a good day. I’m happy with my performance. I felt like I had everything under control and it was great,” she said.

In the previous round, Swiatek had to work hard to defeat Germany’s Tatjana Maria with 5-7, 6-2, 6-0.

In the quarterfinals, Swiatek will face Anna Blinkova who defeated Leylah Fernandez 7-5, 6-2.

In other matches, Lucia Bronzetti beat fourth seed Mayar Sherif 1-6, 7-6 (7/2), 6-3 in two hours 51 minutes, while Katerina Siniakova beat Evgeniya Rodina 6-2, 6-4.
