JABAR EKSPRES – Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met Mongolia Foreign Minister Battsetseg Batmunkh during her working visit to Ulaanbaatar on Wednesday to discuss efforts to strengthen bilateral relations.

“I am pleased to learn of Mongolia plan to reopen its embassy in Jakarta. We have also signed an MoU on Enhancing Cooperation in Diplomacy and International Relations,” Retno said according to a transcript of her press statement after the meeting.

On economic cooperation, the two foreign ministers welcomed the cooperation between Mongolia’s Modena and Nomin Holding companies, which is the first significant investment from Indonesia to establish a home appliance distribution channel in Mongolia.

“We agreed to promote more trade facilitation and minimize trade barriers. Indonesia is interested in increasing our potential export commodities to Mongolia such as pharmaceutical products and electronic devices,” Retno said.

As for people-to-people relations, the two countries agreed to intensify cooperation in tourism, including by promoting Indonesia’s five super-priority tourist destinations to Mongolian travelers.

Indonesia also welcomed the Mongolia Cultural Center in Tanjung Lesung, which is the first and only Mongolian cultural center in Southeast Asia and was established in 2017.

Furthermore, Retno also raised the issue of women, peace and security – in relation to another activity she will participate in Ulaanbaatar, namely speaking at a meeting of women foreign ministers.

“I will highlight the importance of looking at the role of women in conflict situations through a different perspective. Greater opportunities should be given to women to play their role as agents of peace,” she said.
