JABAR EKSPRES – Foreign tourists visiting North Kalimantan Province are dominated by Malaysia, compared to visits from a number of other countries, based on the mobile position data (MPD) calculation method.
“Foreign tourist visits to Kaltara in April 2023 reached 40,050 visits, and were dominated by Malaysia as many as 44,116 foreign tourists or 96.43 percent,” said the Head of the Central Statistics Agency of Kaltara Province, Mas’ud Rifai in Tanjung Selor, Sunday.
Compared to March 2023 of 41,187 visits, the April 2023 foreign tourist visits increased by 6.95 percent.

The high number of foreign tourist visits from Malaysia causes Kaltara to be directly protected with the country, both land borders and sea borders. Apart from family visits, and travel, Malaysian citizens also have a lot of government affairs, as well as business affairs.
Under Malaysia, foreign tourist visits from the Philippines reached 337 visits (0.74 percent), the Netherlands 183 visits (0.40 percent), China 126 visits (0.28 percent), and Singapore 102 visits (0.22 percent).
BPS Kaltara also said that foreign tourist arrivals based on immigration entrances in Nunukan (not air) in April 2023 increased by 5.14 percent with a total of 1,697 foreign tourists.
As for foreign tourists based on the Tarakan immigration entrance (by air), there were no recorded foreign tourists visiting.

“So it is reported that there were no visits,” he said.
BPS Kaltara also reported that the Room Occupancy Rate (TPK) of star hotels in Kaltara in April 2023 was 40.66 percent or decreased by 12.29 points compared to March 2023. Average-
average number of star-rated hotel rooms in Kaltara was sold or used as much as 40.66 percent of all available rooms in April 2023.
“Star hotels are located in Bulungan Regency and Tarakan City,” Mas’ud said.
Meanwhile, the TPK of other lodging in April 2023 was 27.90 percent, a decrease of 5.08 points compared to March 2023. However, on an annual basis or compared to April 2022, it increased by six percent.
