Jabar Ekspres – An art exhibition titled “In Another Land” by Bandung, West Java-based artist Prabu Perdana presents a series of paintings that reflect the relationship between nature and the human ego.

Recipient of the 2020 UOB Painting of the Year award at the national and Southeast Asian level for “Isolated Garden”, Prabu Perdana presents his first solo exhibition in Jakarta at Darmawangsa Square in Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta.

Prabu’s paintings feature a variety of common objects such as the sky, horizon, land, and buildings presented in landscape paintings.

In contrast to the reality where humans are dominant and often exploit nature, the absence of human figures in “In Another Land” is the result of Prabu’s imagination that envisions when nature can dominate the human ego.

“This work develops into a landscape work that exposes nature as more dominating than the human ego itself,” said Prabu, who was present at the opening of the “In Another Land” exhibition on Saturday.

In addition to Prabu’s imagination about the dominance of nature over humans, he admitted that the works in “In Another Land” were also inspired by the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic where limited human activities outside the home made nature cleaner.

The “In Another Land” exhibition presents 12 selected works painted from 2020 to 2023. In the painting, which is based on surrealism that also has a touch of realism, Prabu uses more cold colors such as green and blue.

In the future, Prabu plans to create a series of paintings that combine everyday objects with natural scenery. Some of the works will also be painted in a futurist style.

“In the future, I want to work on everyday objects juxtaposed with nature that will be exposed in the next work. Maybe there will be something similar to this (the painting in “In Another Land”) or something that will move like a futurist work in the 20th century,” said Prabu.
